From the Artist:
“I feel compelled to create and paint. It is a need. To be at the easel with a brush on the canvas makes me happy. The excitement of what will appear today drives me on. Something that didn’t exist yesterday is now a treasure for me. My painting is an attempt to create beauty and meaning using any subject matter but most often, the human form.
I paint initially for myself but it is a great joy if my work touches someone else. The work seems unfulfilled until it affects others.
The creative process for me is a mixture of planning, knowledge, external sources, spiritual intuition and happy accident. I enjoy the emotional challenge of separating creative inspiration from critical evaluation. I try to let the work form through my spirit and then later judge its progress. There is also an intellectual challenge in resolving the aesthetic forces of each piece. The composition, colour balance, focal point all influences the harmony of the outcome.
In summation, painting is a satisfaction to my soul that makes me a more complete person. To verbalise the etherial is difficult and perhaps it is better to let the work speak for itself.
I was born in Kurri Kurri and now live with his wife Dominique in Wangi Wangi. We have four children and four grandchildren. I am a retired teacher and a student of art.”
